pjmpjm: Sadly, I've finally decided to archive this geocache, because the area is still closed with a metal fence, after a major bush fire hit western Katoomba last November.
rogerw3 and I reached GZ in a roundabout way and discovered (as expected) that the cache container was still in excellent shape, hiding underneath its large rock.
Views from the trail and lookout were excellent, since all the trees were badly burned, opening up endless vistas. However, the immediate lookout location is rather blackened and unappealing.
I expect that Cahill's Lookout will eventually be re-opened, because there's a good path here, a monument, benches, a picnic area, etc., most of which have escaped destruction.
How long this will take is a good question . . . might be a year or so, and that's really too long to leave a cache 'temporarily disabled.'
There are many other excellent lookouts along Cliff Drive so I trust that future geocaching visitors will still have many wonderful Blue Mountains views to choose from . . . a number of which are home to my geocaches.
(Note: the cache container has definitely been removed.)
