The Old Coach Inn Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
These ruins were built in 1840 from stone quarried from the site by pick and shovel
Originally it was a junction station for mail coach drivers and the general public between Adeliade-Mt Gambier
During the Gold Rush, very few Chinese used this resting place as they were illegal imigrants and were frightened of being apprehended by government officials.
In the 1870's the railways started taking over the mail runs so the Inn gradually lost trade... It finally closed in 1886
Later it was converterd to an overseers cottage for Gillap Station
In the years after this it was occasionally used by wood cutters but is now a partially deserted ruin
Come and browse the history boards, bring your camera as there is great photography.
