This cache was hidden as part of the Cache to Eagle Project which highlights Service Projects that Scouts have completed as part of their path to the Highest Rank in Scouting. A Scout wishing to attain the Rank of Eagle must plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to a religious institution, school, or his community. The project idea must be approved by the Scoutmaster, Troop Committee and by the Council/District before he can start.
This cache is one of the 12 caches to be hidden within the Timucua District of the Gulf Ridge Council. The Timucua District is comprised of Scout Troops from Eastern Hillsborough County.
Each cache in this series is dedicated to one of the 12 points of the Scout Law.
Nathan Carson Troop 14 completed his Eagle project in September of 2008. The primary purpose of Nathan’s project was to provide an outdoor study hall for Steppin’ Stone Farm. Steppin’ Stone Farm is a residential home for troubled teenage girls.
The area behind the school was overgrown with weeds and unusable. The project involved developing this area into an outdoor study hall and lanai complete with landscaping, irrigation, and seating. This project was completed in two major phases. The landscaping was completed first to ensure that they could be enjoyed by the Steppin’ Alumni Reunion in October 4, 2008. The picnic tables were assembled and delivered later in October, 2008.
The girls at the Farm are now able to enjoy the outdoors while they review their daily lessons. The new area will provides a place where the girls can talk with each other, their counselors, and their parents. In addition, the picnic tables provide additional seating for special holiday celebrations.
