Geocache Description:

This is cache # 6 of an 11 part series on the Wolf Creek Trail. Each cache contains interpretive information about the feature marked by the signpost. The caches are all easily accessible from the trail.

Welcome to the Wolf Creek Trail, a walk through Yukon's boreal forest. The trail takes you to the banks of the Yukon River and then back along Wolf Creek in an hour's walk. The inspiration for this series comes from a brochure produced by Environment Yukon called "Wolf Creek Trail". It is no longer in print.
Signpost #6 FISH AND BEAVERS
This cache is just off the main trail on a spur which takes you to the mouth of the creek. Back-track to the main trail after retrieving this cache to continue with the series.
When beavers moved into this area some time ago, they built a dam downstream from where you are standing, flooding the area in front of you. The beaver dam may have prevented salmon from returning upstream to spawn. The deeper pools created by the dam would have provided overwintering and spawning habitat for grayling.
