Geocache Description:

It's been a while since we placed a cache, so we decided to put one in our neighborhood. The cache is a white plastic pipe with a screw cap containing a log, pencil and a few small items. It is located in a park in Centereach.

The cache is not hidden at the posted coordinates. You must solve the puzzle below to find the cache. However, the posted coordinates will put you in the parking lot of our favorite Italian restaurant. Enjoy!

Kakuro (also known as Cross Sums) is a logic puzzle that also involves simple math.

These are the rules:
- The number in the black box is the sum of the digits in the adjacent row or column.
- If the number is above the diagonal, it is the sum of the numbers in the row to the right of it. If the number is below the diagonal, it is the sum of the numbers in the column below it.
- Fill in the white boxes with numbers from 1 to 9. Zero is not used. Each number is used only once in each particular number combination.

To get you started, I have already added the numbers 1 & 4 at the top of the puzzle (under the number 5). You might also find the following information to be helpful:

1. Certain number combinations have only one possible solution. For example, two numbers that add up to 17 must be 8 + 9, while three numbers that add up to 6 must be 1 + 2 + 3.

2. If an intersecting row and column have only one number in common, that number must go in the intersection. For example, if a row with two numbers that add up to three (1 + 2) intersects a column with two numbers that add up to four (1 + 3), the number at the intersection is 1 since it is the only number found in both solutions.

After you solve the puzzle you will find the cache at the following location:

N40° AB.CDE W073° 0F.G0H

This will take you to a small park in Centereach. It's really nice if you have little ones. The cache is in a location that is about 4 feet high. Be very careful, since the muggle factor can be high at times. A good time to come is early morning or after dark.
