The history of „Ragyogó” Bridge.
Ragyogó bridge is one of the oldest bridge on Rába, it connects Ostffyasszonyfa with Uriaiújfalu. The first notes were producted in 250 AD. A Marcellius Roman historian described the history of Pannonia in detail. In his notes, we can read about a bridge which can be found on river Rába (Rob) about 12.000 paces from the post Arrobanita ( Sárvár).
During the turkish times between 1530 – 1540, at post was built at the bridge. Ahmed the turkish leader was guarding the bridge with his 300 soldiers, but Tamás Nádasdy and his soldiers drove away the turks. Unfortunately at this time, the bridge was destroyed. In the XVIII th century, Mary Theresa gives 1000 „tallér” to the county in order to reconstruct the bridge with the assistance of the nobles. Johannes Schneider , officer of the engineer corps from Bratislava designed and conducted the construction. At the beginning of the 20 th century, the Association of Rába Regulator transported an iron bridge, onto the place of the bridge which was destroyed. The bridge was blown up by the retreating German troops on the 26th of March 1945. The present bridge was build in 1966.
On the right side of the bridge, in the floodplain there was a little house. This house called the Ragyogó inn. The highwaymen used to go to this inn after a successfull robbery. The chronicles mention Jóska Sobri’s and Józsi Savanyú’s names who were highwaymen. Rába and the Ragyogó bridge were also famous due to Petofi’s residence in Ostffyasszonyfa because he spent a lot of time at Rába with his friends
