Geocache Description:

Congrats to DB68 for being the FTF!

KZJ! loves geocaching, but he also has many other hobbies. Team KZJ! has hidden this cache on his favorite disc golf course. You will get to know this disc golf course almost as well as some of its players, as you piece together this puzzle on your way to a smiley…

Disc golf is a game structured much like regular golf except that the former is played with a flying disc instead of a ball and clubs. The holes are laid out similar to a normal golf hole except the end goal is a “basket target” rather than an actual hole in the ground. Players use different sized discs for different shots. A “driver” disc is used off the tee, a mid-range disc for the longer holes, and a “putter” disc for approach and really short shots. A quick online search of disc golf reveals that the game has a large, enthusiastic fan base, much like geocaching. Disc golf is fun, relaxing and is becoming more popular every day.

Ocala’s portion of the Cross Florida Greenway includes a disc golf course built on abandoned barge canal property. The Greenway disc golf course was established in 2003 by friend and fellow player, Mike Pierannunzi. It consists of 24 holes for a total playing distance of 6192 ft. and a par of 72 (with optional tee boxes and a par 85 for beginners). There is elevation on most holes with a mix of wooded and wide open holes. Although walking any course in Florida can be hot and exhausting, 80% of this course is in the shade. The holes wind through the park and provide varying levels of difficulty. On your first disc golf effort, the results may be inconsistent; however, a good time is had by all level of players. It is a low impact, leisurely game, and a good way to get some light exercise while enjoying central Florida’s natural beauty.

Disc golf is inexpensive (the Greenway course is free to play) and accessible to most. It requires very little athletic ability and almost no special equipment. The next time you want to do something other than geocache, but equally as fun, give disc golf a try!

Parking is located at: N 29° 09.730 W 82° 01.940

Start at the first hole and walk the course. You will need to collect information from different holes. Once this information is gathered, you will be able to find the hidden cache. Good Luck.

Hole 1 is located at: N 29° 09.740 W 82° 02.025

The equation:

Distance of hole 2 = A

Distance of hole 11 = B

Distance of hole 19 = C

Distance of hole 22 = D

A + B = N

C + D = W

Once you have both N and W, go to the 18th hole and do the final math...

N +285
W -595

Now having the final numbers, apply them to the spaces below and go find that CACHE!

N 29° 09._____

W 82° 02._____

FTF will be happy to find $10… enough to purchase your first disc golf disc, or a few gallons of gas for your tank. Disc golf discs can be found at any sporting goods store in Ocala and a good starting disc is priced at about $8.99. Start with a distance driver and practice, practice, practice!

Good luck!
