At that time the number of protestants was limited. According to a census in 1810 there were 17 protestant inhabitants out of the 1822 inhabitants of Boxmeer. For the new church the Dutch king had given a contribution of NG 6.500,- This contribution was meant for the new church building and a rectory. The rectory was not newly built but consisted out of an improvement of an existing building. In 1853 the rectory was finally newly built with a further contribution of the Dutch government of NLG 5.300,-. The Protestant church and Catholic church always had a good working relation. For instance as of 1822 the divine service in the protestant church was planned at such a moment that it would have ended when catholic procession “De Vaart” would pass around the corner of the street. In 1932 the church also established a school in “De Spoorstraat” that in later years was located in “De Oranjestraat”. Opposite the church you will find the small but beautiful Nepomuk chapel built in 1737. It is named after the Czech saint Johannes Nepomucenus. Also opposite the church you will find the cloister of the “Zusters van Julie Postel” (a congregation established in Normandy, France in 1807). The cloister is still in use by approximately 70 sisters of the congregation of Julie Postel and also sisters of several other congregations. Finally on the premises of the congregation you will find the castle. Until the 18th century it was a medieval castle meant for defence. In the 18th century is was demolished and a country house/palace was built. Parts of this country house/palace you can still see. In the basement you will find the castle museum which is very interesting. It does not only show you the past of the castle but also the history of the “Zusters van Julie Postel”. It is open in the weekends during the afternoon. However if you want to visit please check their website beforehand. Please replace the cache in the same way you found it. "Camouflage" it well please
