Saturday 24th September 2011
From 2pm onwards
At The Crooked House, Himley
A chance for the West Midlands geocaching community to come
together for an afternoon and to put names to those names we see
all too often on logbooks. Whether it's to discuss favourite
caches, brainstorm how to solve those tricky puzzles or to swap and
discover trackables, all are welcome to attend. The more the
merrier.
There is another aspect of this meet as well. Each year a
geocaching mega event is held somewhere in the UK and we were
thinking of trying to get the 2013 Mega event to come to the West
Midlands. Anyone who is interested in helping to organise such an
event is encouraged to come along and we can decide on the best way
to move forward.
The venue for this event is the Crooked House, Himley a few
miles from Dudley town centre. For those who don't know, the
Crooked house is an incredible place that is one big optical
illusion. Originally a farmhouse, the building now tilts to the
side thanks to subsidance that has left one side of the pub 4 feet
lower than the other. Curtains fall away from windows, clocks
appear to stand at impossible angles and marbles roll uphill. This
has to be the only pub in the World where you can feel drunk before
you've even touched any beer.
The pub itself serves a range of ales, plus the usual other
drinks, and serves a small menu of bar snacks during the afternoon.
There is also a restaraunt that serves an extensive menu usuing
local produce - well worth it if not during the event but another
time.
To coincide with the event there will be at least one new cache
published very close to the pub, but there are other caches close
by including those at Himley Hall a short distance down the
road.
The pub know that we are coming, but I have promised to let them
know rough numbers nearer the time, so please log your interest on
this page. I will also update this page with any additional
information nearer the time.
For those who are interested, the Crooked House website is
here.
