A night cache in Harmon Park. You're looking for white reflective discs about the size of a quarter. The final cache will be marked instead with a yellow reflective stripe, to denote the end. The coords will lead you to the starting point, a fire hydrant. Look around from here. The discs will take you in a eastern direction. A reach of 7 feet is required to obtain the cache, so a small step ladder may help those who are vertically challenged.
We decided that since it's much too hot to cache during the day on these hot Iowa summer days, we'd place another night cache. This one is actually on foot. It is about a 1500ft walk one way. Be cautioned that there are some dips in the ground surrounding the area, so when you spot the next disc, it would be wise to use your light to watch the ground for these. Also note, the reflective discs are retroreflective (this means that the light reflects back to the source of light), so for maximum visibility, hold source of light by your head at eye level.
A little history to this park:
This park used to be a lot more of a park than it is now. The residents of the neighboring apartment complex used to use it frequently for picnics and family recreation. However, as time went on the neighboring population aged and intrest in the park faded. The park used to have a shelter, drinking fountain, and various play structures. With lack of intrest of the public, the parks department took out the aging structures. Some concrete is still left from the shelter. The area is still owned and maintained by the City of Ottumwa Parks Department though. For this reason we decided that this park needed a cache hidden in it. Enjoy!
