Geocache Description:




Boardwalks really are the elevated expressways of the forest, and this area is a perfect example of that. Massive improvements have been made to the track between Holdsworth Lodge and Atiwhakatu Hut – with boardwalks added over swampy sections, paths widened, and the general usability improved. This relatively new boardwalk section in particular is roughly 170 metres long, and winds through the forest, allowing trampers to walk easily and without damage to the surrounding flora.

This cache is sited on the track between Holdsworth Lodge at the carpark, and Atiwhakatu Hut at the base of Holdsworth/Jumbo. This is an easy day walk for a tramper or hiker, and should take about 2 hours to reach the hut. It’s slightly uphill, but because it follows the course of the river, the elevation changes are restricted to climbs over recent slips. We’ve added these three caches along the main trail to bring more people into the area, and to highlight the beautiful scenery that is tucked in this valley, straddling the Atiwhakatu Stream.

The cache is a 400mL translucent Sistema containing a logbook. BYO pen.
