On the 4th of November 1889 the railway Ulflingen (Troisvierges) – Wilwerdingen – St.Vith has been taken into operation which made it easier for the poeple from the north of Luxembourg to travel to Belgium and Germany.
Especially the daily freight traffic, bringing iron ore from the south of Luxembourg to its northern neighbour countries was a great importance.
During the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 the track was severely damaged on belgian territory near St.Vith. It was not reconstructed. Until 1950 however, trains were still going as far as Lengler and Burg-Reuland.
Since 1962 the belgium part of the railway was not operated anymore, while the Ulflingen – Wilwerdingen part was used intermittently.
The railway was definitively abandoned on 1977.
In autumn of 1983 the CFL (chemins de fer luxembourgeoises) removed the remaining rails between Ulflingen and Wilwerdingen.
In the near future everybody can enjoy the beautiful nature on this track, as the old railway is now being transformated into a bicycle path. Until the works are finished, you can already walk this way or discover it using the mountainbike.
From Troisvierges to Oudler (B) you will find a series of 6 caches.
To log them, go to the given coordinates, look around, don’t move anything, look carefully ...if you see something strange..it’s the cache.
Please be careful while logging and after logging put the cache back the way you found it.
You also find some other interesting caches in this area.
