Campsite Overlook Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is located near a campsite along the Loop Road with a
beautiful view. The trail is always muddy and can be rocky in some
sections. WARNING: WATER CROSSING- There is one water crossing near
the beginning of the hike. The water is usually not more than 12"
in the deepest sections and just a few inches in the shallow areas.
From the starting point, it is about a 1.7 mile hike to the cache. If you have a rugged 4x4, you could drive it, but it is quite rough. There are plenty of deep potholes filled with water and muddy sections, but they can be walked around. This is one of my favorite campsites along the loop road and offers a beautiful view of the canyon. It makes a lovely spot for a picnic lunch. Sadly, some campers at this location leave behind their trash. I cleaned up the site when placing the cache. If you notice any garbage, please make a note so I can get out there to clean it up.
The cache is easiest to access by traveling through Blackwater Falls State Park. The coordinates for the cache are based on waypoint averaging while the GPSr indicated 13' accuracy.
The cache is a 7.62mm ammo box. Park at N 39 06.001, W 79 31.516 (Lindy Point parking area- located past the sled run)
Winter Access: The road to Lindy Point parking lot is closed during the winter months for XC skiing.
You can still park at the Sled Run parking area and hike it, but it will be an additional 1.0 miles to the cache. Use extreme caution on the rocks at GZ during winter conditions.
