On April 5, 1242 prince of Novgorod, Alexander Nevsky beat the army of Livonian Knights during the Battle of the Ice, on the Lake Peipus. In 1938 Sergei Eisenstein shot the film abot those events. During World War II Alexander Nevsky became the symbol of Russia's fight against German invaders. In 1993, on the Mount Sokolicha near Pskov, there was was unveiled the huge monument of Alexander Nevsky and his knights.
