It was May 2007. I arrived on the ford dealer
lot looking to trade in my white single cab 2003 2WD Ford Ranger.
For those of you that may remember it. I bought that truck new off
the lot in 2003 and traded it in with 75K miles on it.
I recall the Sales Lady first trying to
get me to upgrade to a F-150, but i still wanted a short wheel base
and a smaller truck in general. So did my wallet. (Geocaching is
like a career or family, in the fact that they have bearing in what
vehicle you may purchase) After getting my point across i wanted
another Ranger, she kept trying to sale me another 2WD. She asked,
"Do you really need a 4wd?" and i was like, Yeah! LOL. You have no
ideal what this truck is going to be put thru. See, the dealer had
a lot of 2WD trucks and only a few 4x4's at the time. Then the big
question came and with a serious look on her face, she asked, "well
what if we take this 2wd and put skid plates on it for ya". I Still
laugh today when i think about that.
So I drove off with what my geocaching
friends see often, a 2004 4x4 extracab wiith 36K miles on it(i went
used since it was a 4x4 and going to be treated as such). Which
takes us to today. July 22nd 2011. At This location I hit the
100,000 mile mark on the trucks odometer. I have a job with a
company vehcile, so driving my truck mostly on weekends, it took me
a little time but i made it. Its been a great truck, I'm on my 4th
set of tires, one by choice and wore out 2 others. Two Batteries,
One Alternator and a set of shocks. Plus regualr stuff. Not to bad
if you ask me.
SO i have no clue what the future holds
for me and my truck. Will I have it this time next year? Will I get
a jeep next? Will Jeep ever make a truck again? Will i give in and
buy a Nissan Frontier? (4 doors!) We'll Just have to
see.
