batrachophobia:
fear of amphibians.
an overwhelming, irrational fear of amphibians such as toads,
frogs, newts and salamanders. The batrachophobic individual may be
totally fearless with other reptiles such as lizards or snakes, but
can be so compromised by this phobia, that they may not even be
able to look at pictures of amphibians. People coping with
Sufferers may avoid ponds, streams, nature parks or anywhere that
there may be a chance that they might encounter an amphibian.
Perhaps the batrachophobic person thinks that amphibians are slimy
or that contact with them will cause skin problems such as
warts.
Some people, when confronted with their fear of amphibians, may
begin to perspire, feel slightly uncomfortable or become nauseated.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, other people are so severely
compromised by this phobia, that they may experience crippling
anxiety and/or panic attacks.
