Geocache Description:

Quick and easy find near the highway.

The elevator was built in 1942 by the Eakin family, who owned and operated it until the early 70's. It was built at a time when a rail line came through this area and made it more cost effective to store and ship grain in bulk rather than in sown sacks, as had been used up to that point.

The elevator was constructed with wood stacked face-to-face and later covered with metal sheeting. It had a capacity of 114,000 bushels.

Loss of the rail line in the 1964 flooding, forced used of more expensive transport by truck and the elevator was removed in about 2007.
