Geocache Description:

James Price Point is about 60km North of Broome and is on Manari Road, Waterbank WA which is off Broome Cape Leveque Road. 2 wheel drive vehicles travel up nearly every day during the dry season however road is rated for 4x4 hence the higher terrain rating. Road has corrugated bumps at times which vibrates the car a bit.

Cache is a plastic 600ml container with a few trinkets, pen and spare AA batteries for your cache. Due to the heavy monsoonal wet make sure cache is left vertical.

Locally known as 'Prices Point' or JPP. James Price, who was Minister for Works in Western Australia, died in May 1910. The Point first appeared on an Admiralty Chart (1922) Edition of Buccaneer Archipelago to Bedout Island. Presumably named by either Commander Moore, Captain Pasco (1910) or Lt Commander Reyne (1914).
Well worth dropping into Quondong Point while up this way which I feel is nicer then James Price Point and is also very popular for campers and grey nomads with their caravans. Willy Creek Pearl Farm is also on route to the cache if you’re up for a tour.

The Western Australian State Government approved developing a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Precinct in the Kimberley to enable processing of natural gas from the offshore Browse Basin.
Comprising of three gas fields, the Browse Basin is approximately 400kms north-east of Broome and has an estimated reserve of 34.6 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas and 600 million barrels of condensate.

After nearly 4 years of extensive work, and considerable consultation with both Traditional Owners and the broader community, an area South of James Price Point was selected as the preferred location for the Browse LNG Precinct. The proposed precinct will be capable of accommodating LNG processing and shipping facilities for at least two separate private enterprises developing these resources.

Woodside and its Joint Venture Partners are the private enterprises wishing to lease some of the precinct land to develop an LNG plant which will be just south of the point.

On 30 June 2011, the State Government, Goolarabooloo Jabirr Jabirr native title claimant group and Woodside Energy Ltd finalised agreements to secure access to land at James Price Point for the establishment of an LNG precinct to process gas from the Browse Basin Gas reserves.

Protestor action ramped up mid-2011 and there are now 2 separate protestor camps, one on the corner of Manari Rd and Broome Cape Leveque Rd and the original camp found on Manari Rd just south of the of the Cache.

Witness history making events which can be seen on National and International News.
