Geocache Description:

This park 'n grab is only large enough for a log, so bring your own writing instrument.

This cache is one of ten stops on .jpeg's driving tour. (http://coord.info/GC3DTQ7) In July of 2008, our 16th find was a Cub Pack 197 cache (http://coord.info/GC1DQRF) in this park near our home. Since then, the hiding place was completely obliterated and the cache was archived. So this park was left without a cache. To restore order and pay tribute to this cache and of course Captain Herod, this cache has returned. Here is some information about Capt. Herod from the previous cache: ============================================================== The cache is located behind Herod Elementary School, which is named in honor of Captain Gary L. Herod. I retrieved the following from the Herod website: On March 16, 1961, Captain Gary L. Herod of the 182nd Fighter Inspector Squadron, Texas Air National Guard had just taken off from Ellington Field. While flying alone in his jet aircraft over the City of Houston, he experienced complete engine failure. Captain Herod patiently realized that if he ejected himself from the aircraft to save his own life, the jet aircraft would, in all probability, crash into the homes below with catastrophic loss of life and property. Captain Herod remained with his aircraft to guide it through an overcast sky to crash beyond densely populated Houston. In doing so, he heroically sacrificed his life. Captain Herod’s actions were in entire disregard of his person, and in the finest traditions of the Texas Air National Guard and the United States Air Force he so gallantly represented. One of the reasons that there are very few caches in this park is that there just aren’t that many places to hide something. Furthermore, this park is a muggle favorite and almost always has muggles nearby. Use stealth when retrieving / replacing this cache. ============================================================== Congratulations to -Scarecrow- the FirstToFind. Have fun!
