Ryers Down #5 Traditional Cache
Zetetic: A couple of the series have gone missing so I think it’s time to archive them. Ten years is a good run, thanks to those who have logged and favorited them.

A series of six regular caches plus a Bonus cache on a circular
walk around/on Ryers Down, Gower.
Two of the caches contain one half of the Bonus cache coordinates,
both are required to find the Bonus.
All of the caches are placed no more than a few steps off the paths
so no need to bushwhack, though good footwear is recommended as the
paths can get muddy in places.
Ryers Down is situated at the north western end of Gower, located
immediately to the north of the small settlement of Burry Green.
Habitats to be found on Ryer’s Down include dry heath, which
is developing due to current management, and a small area of wet
heath. There are nine sites of archaeological interest on
Ryer’s Down including two possible sites of medieval long
houses, a quarry, medieval banks and ditches. There are several
large irregular depressions with other smaller hollows around the
hillside. Although the exact date is not known for definite, these
are likely to be old quarrying sites. The down is also home to the
Great green bush-cricket (Tettigonia viridissima) which is
Britain’s largest bush cricket, measuring up to 5cm.
The caches have been placed with the kind permission of the
National Trust.
