Introduction
The Trustees of Reservations is the nation’s oldest Land
Trust, founded in 1891. They preserve for public use and enjoyment
properties of scenic, historic, and ecological value in
Massachusetts and work to protect special places across the state.
The non-profit group owns or protects over 50,000 acres in
Massachusetts including over 100 reservations, all open to the
public. Peaked Mountain in Monson, MA is one of these
properties.
Atop the 1,227ft Peaked Mountain proper, you'll take in
fantastic views of the area. It's a great place for a hike, and
home to several geocaches.

The Event
What: Sunrise Hike on Peaked Mountain
When: September 10, 2011, 4:45 AM
Why: Because at least once in your life you need to see the
sun come up while sitting on a mountain top, and last year's
hurricaine front wasn't quite what we were looking for!
On September 10, 2011, the sun will rise at 6:23am. The hike up
Peaked Mountain is fairly easy, and will take about 45 minutes -
but we'll have kids in tow, and we want to make it up top for
sunrise, so we'll be leaving the parking lot at 5:00 am! We'll meet
at the parking lot at 4:45, and start the hike around 5:00. If
you're there early enough, we'll provide hot coffee and donuts to
wake you up, and give you the needed energy to make it to the
top!
Up top, we'll have the usual meet & greet, raffle off some
prizes, and enjoy the changing scenery while the sun comes up.

Photograph by Midnite Breez, 6/5/2009 - The only
reason you need to get up at 5am!
Notes:
- Please bring your headlamp and/or flashlights - it might just
be dark before sunrise!
- While this hike is listed as kid friendly, as it's a gentle
climb to the top, there are some steep drop-offs at the summit
where we'll be watching the sunrise - so be prepared to keep an eye
on the young ones.
- Peaked Mountain is normally only accessible from sunrise to
sunset, however, Josh Knox, The Trustees’ Peaked Mountain
Superintendent, has granted us permission to be on the property
before the sun rises on September 10th.
