While we were hiking around the Larch Mountain/Upper Multnomah Basin area, we were suprised by the number of unmarked trails, or routes that seemed to change names. We ran into a number of groups of hikers that were confused as to the best route that day.
Closest parking is at Larch Mountain, a state park fee site. The cache is 1.5 miles down a forest trail by the closest route. It can be also reached by hiking the whole loop down through the basin and up the other side. The trail is clear, however is it not flat and, by the most direct route, it will be uphill the whole way back. For a longer hike, come up from Multnomah Falls Lodge. (6.8 miles one way from the lodge to Larch Mountain.) Trails in this area are all connected, so enjoy exploring them, and keep a track log so you can find your way back at the end of the day.
