Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches based around historical military sites in Dorset. The inspiration for them is the DC Comic hero, Sgt Frank Rock. Rock was created by R Kanigher (writer) and J Kubert (artist). Between 1959 and 2008 Rock and his 'Easy company' of the 141 infantry became the ipitomy of the US soldier; Rock was voted the 78th greatest comic book hero by IGN.

Sgt Rock says
With the risk of nuclear conflict running high in the 1960's it became obvious that should war break out accurate data regarding the severity of blast and fallout would be needed. Therefore, the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation was set up. Principle to this would be the Royal Observer Corp who would man the 1,563 specially built bunkers. These concrete, bitumen coated structures were buried 25 feet underground and could accomodate 3 observers and all the necassary monitoring equiptment. Worth Matravers is one such example although it's external features are somewhat different. However, it like all the others was sealed up when the threat of war subsided and the ROC was stood down. PLEASE NOTE THE CACHE IS NOT ON THE STATION SO PLEASE DO NOT CROSS OVER THE WIRE FENCE.

Congratulations to Bull Family for FTF!
