Geocache Description:

Desert Car Kings is a television show on the Discovery Channel that takes place in NW Phoenix.

This is a 3 stage letterbox. At least one of the stages requires you to travel a short distance on a dirt road, (which may be slightly flooded/muddy after a monsoon). A 2WD vehicle should be able to drive on this road with no issues. Just don't wash your car beforehand. Parking may be difficult at one or more of the stages. Some type of vehicle (car, bike, etc.) will probably be needed to travel between stages.

First stage is at the listed coordinates. Because of the number of muggles, the first stage has no container, may require some prework and requires you to go to the GZ and observe landmarks and calculate the stage 2 coordinates from the your observations and prework.

Use coordinate format below for Stage Two:
W- 112° a b.c d e
N- 33° v w.x y z

1) Add up the number of digits in the street name, multiply by 2 and subtract 6. Plug the number from the ones column of the answer into slot a in the coordinates above.

2) Add up the numerals from the license plate of the trailer (located slightly south of GZ) with the DVAP auction sign on it. Plug the number from the ones column of the answer into slot v in the coordinates above. Plug the number from the tens column of the answer into slot w in the coordinates above.

3) Count the number of glass insulators on that same wooden pole located within the GZ and subtract one. Plug the number from the ones column of the answer into slot c in the coordinates listed above.

4) Number of people belonging to the family that owns the business (starts with Mc) that regularly appear on the television show and plug that number into slot x in the coordinates listed above.

5) Note the address of this location. Multiply the number that appears most often by 2 and plug the product into slot b in the coordinates listed above.

6) Add up the numbers in the phone number on the square plate on the telephone pole. Divide by 3 and plug the number from the ones column of the quotient into slot z in the coordinates listed above.

7) Add up number of letter in surname of family on show. Add 2 to that number and plug total into e in the coordinates listed above. [clue revised March 2013]

8) Count the number of METAL garage doors on the west side of this property. Multiply this number by 700 and plug the number from the hundreds column of the answer into slot y in the coordinates listed above.

9) Count the number of axles on the trailer with the DVAP auction sign on it. Add the number of tires to that answer and multiply the sum by 180. Plug the number from the tens column of the answer into slot d in the coordinates listed above.

Stages Two & Three:
Use the coordinates calculated above to find stage 2. It will be self evident.

Stage three has a small cache container with little to no room for trades. While at stage 3, take a peek into the fenced in area to the west. I wonder what this is.

Don't forget to bring your personal letterboxing stamp, stamp pad, and logbook if you have them! The cache container contains a stamp and does not have an inkpad in it. BYOP.

As always, be on the look out for the usual desert critters (although I haven't seen any). Bring plenty of water - especially in the summer. Ground maybe muddy after a rain. Please rehide cache as good or better than found.

Just a thought. There are several challenge/puzzle caches out there (ex: GC2VHT4 Double or Nothing) requiring various cache icons to be found on the same day. You may have noticed that letterboxes are hard to find in the valley. If you are contemplating one of these caches, and need a letterbox icon, there is a good chance I will publish a few more letterboxes shortly.

I'd appreciate it if someone could return the favor and plant a few letterboxes out there for me so I can pursue these caches also as the valley seriously lacks letterboxes. Thanks and have fun! If you happen to get caught by the cameraman muggle, let us know so we can watch for you on TV!!

Congratulations to JCanyoneer & Corfman Clan for the F2F!!!
