4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

This cache is unusual; no exchanges possible and no pen/pencil provided. It’s a very rocky area so use CAUTION to avoid injury and find the cache.
The cache is hidden at a rocky point that was once a seawall and drain outfall. It’s now a great observation point to watch storms, surfers, swimmers and birds.

Welcome of Port Beach. This my favourite place to start every day – winter and summer.

Seasonal storms, wind, tides and changing land uses such as port expansion ensure that Port Beach is constantly dynamic. It is dramatically different from the original shoreline that existed prior to the many development phases of the Port of Fremantle from 1901 (when the south and north moles were built and the river mouth was first dredged) to the recent additions to the Rous Head area in 2010.

The view from the cache site has changed dramatically too - it isn’t many years ago that huge ‘Golden Fleece’ fuel tanks were located immediately adjacent to this point on the fore-dune to the south! They were decommissioned in the mid 1990s, which is a good thing as most of the land they were on - is now sea!

A Port and Leighton Beaches Management Plan was completed in 2001 to guide management of the Reserve (located on the ocean side of the road). The reserve was vested in the City of Fremantle in 1995. Any problems or suggestions, call them!

Come back often and enjoy the delights of this magical place.
