Geocache Description:

St Mary’s Church is approximately 0.3 miles along a small lane just off the B5106, south of Caerhun between Caerhun Hall and the Cemetry. It is on the same side of the road as Caerhun Hall and on the opposite side from the cemetery. There is parking outside the church walls.

As with most churchyards, please take care when you walk around as the ground can be uneven. Also please try to walk around the graves rather than over them.

So why “Friends … Romans … Geocachers”?

St Mary’s Church and churchyard was very different 2000 years ago, as it was once part of a bustling Roman Fort. The ramparts of the fort can be seen in the nearby fields. The Canovium Fort stretched across 5 acres of this landscape and stationed 500 roman guards. It needs some imagination to visualise this given the tranquility of the church today! – Hence Friends … Romans … Geocachers!

St Mary’s Church holds many more tales and secrets, why not pop in if you have time? The Church welcomes visitors and is open daily between 10am & 5pm. Whilst looking around, please remember that they are places of worship and contemplation, and the heritage is much valued by the local communities.

The cache is a small black container and it has a logbook, slate coin (initially!) and pencil inside. Happy hunting!
Note: The co-ordinates were averaged out over several readings.
