Geocache Description:

This is one of my series of caches located along Highway 11, The Cherokee Foothills Parkway.
The cache is located up from the road.

Wildcat Falls from the Road

While I have rated the Terrain a "2", most of it is easy. But there are roots and rocks along the way, and you must climb a steep set of dirt and wood steps to reach the cache container.

A little about the area:
This cache is located at a popular pulloff.
You get 2 for the price of 1 here. Wildcat Falls is a very popular spot as it is right on the side of the road on Highway 11 (The Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway) and can be seen from the roadside. There often is a person selling hot boiled peanuts at the pulloff.

The falls has two sections: a 10-foot freefall upstream and lower the 20-foot cascade down a slab of exposed granite into a shallow pool. To the left of these falls are a number of steps that ascend to the top of the falls. From there the path crosses the water just above the 10-foot freefall on a wooden bridge and continues to an old homestead and clearing. Please don't attempt to climb the falls themselves.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, for the cache:
Park at the obvious pulloff at N 34 04.426 and W 082 35.836 .
Ascend the 20 wooden steps that are to the left of the falls.
Turn Right on the path. At the fork just down the path, bear RIGHT.
CROSS the bridge and you will be near the cache.
NOTE added 1-2013: the bridge has apparently been removed, use your judgement in crossing.

From where the path goes across the top of the falls (very pretty), it continues a very short distance to a clearing with a chimney from an old homestead. (If you get there, you have gone too far.) Admire it but do not disturb it.

The coordinates are good, but there is a lot of tree cover, and, you are in a valley with rocky terrain around you, so your GPS could be off by 10 feet or so. You are searching for a bottle, hidden from view.

. . . BE CAREFUL! The ground can be covered with leaves, and can be slick, especially if the leaves are wet!

Happy Caching, and enjoy this beautiful area. Bring a picnic!
