Population Growth Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

McHenry County Conservation District: It appears this one has been muggled. No time for maintenance and with the new set just out, I am going to have to let this one go in order to focus on newer ones.

Geocache Description:

Harrison Benwell Conservation Area
Parking at N42 23.133 W088 19.925

You are looking for a clear plastic container

This site recently received a major ecological “face lift.” Extensive brush removal occurred in some of the oldest protected parcels. Invasive brush (honeysuckle, multiflora rose, red pine, black cherry, etc) was removed. This site was the first site opened to the public in 1973 and now contains 74 acres with over 1.5 miles of hiking trails.

As a result of this clearing, you will notice several trees bent over the trails. During their growth, this area was highly overgrown so in order to compete for snlight, these trees grew tall quickly without any supporting base. They relayed on the nearby trees and brush to support them. Once these were removed, the trees were no longer able to support themselves. Over time, these trees will begin to grow out instead of up. They will eventually regain their normal height.
