Thegeocachekids decided to hike Mt Herman one sunny day. Meeting
at the trailhead they headed north. Aiden and Jane ran ahead and
came across some DEER tracks on the path. They followed them for
some time, into a meadow filled with flowers, then heard a shout
from Elli and Nicole. In the damp mud nearby where Jane and Aiden
had detoured, the tracks of a predator could be seen stalking the
herd. WOLF tracks, and big ones at that!!! Look at the size of
those claws. Thegeocachekids decided to scatter fast, and leading
the pack- Jack, James and Kellan, raced the group away from the
spine-tingling howling sounds coming from behind a big tree, and
into a nice shady forest. Crunch crunch! What was that? Looking
down they saw the ground was covered with acorns. It was then that
Ryan saw the signs, SQUIRREL tracks scampering around, collecting
acorns and stashing them in hollow trees. Not wanting to disturb
the little critters, thegeocachekids decided to head for the cool
of the pond by Monument Rock. At the pond MaKenna stopped abruptly.
She knew the signs of a hunter pausing for a drink in the wet mud
at the pond's egde- MOUNTAIN LION tracks, the most feared of the
hunters in the area. No way did we want to be around when that guy
came back!! So Karsten made the decision, "lets head West, I am
sure we'll avoid danger that way". So the group took his lead, and
soon enough the girls were skipping ahead and giggling. They
approached a stream and a nice little glen, and thats when Cassidy
saw the BUNNY tracks. And what was that leading out of the stream
on the opposite shore?.... DUCK tracks? We didn't know they were at
Mt Herman!! So exciting, which ones to follow? thegeocachekids are
adventurous, so they decided to forge the stream. As they were
crossing Drew looked downstream... a dam... well... that could only
mean.. "hey everyone, check it out..BEAVER tracks". Sure enough
they were all around where the sturdy little dam had been built.
But where was the clever builder? A low growl alerted
thegeocachekids that they were not alone. They knew what that
meant. Could they outrun it??
The next day two sets of tracks were seen racing back to the
trailhead. In the lead, just barely, the prints of a group of kids.
Following behind them... are those BOBCAT tracks?
