Geocache Description:

Believe it or not Hastings was the birthplace of Gumby!
There was a plant next to the Smead plant called Echo Plastics that mass produced them.

No, Gumby wasn't the crusty New York comic portrayed on the early "Saturday Night Live." He was a Minnesotan, mass-produced in Hastings until about 1971. And so was Pokey, his pony. The "action figure" of Arthur Clokey's green clay boy was co-created in the early 1960s by Roger Moseman, who made the injection mold at the request of his boss, Murray Laub, owner of Echo Plastics in Hastings. Laub, a self-described "terrible artist," drew a stick figure for Moseman, who took it from there to mold millions of plastic Gumby and Pokey toys for fans of the animated-clay TV show.
