Today, My Dal Leo and I joined Railroader921 for a nice hike up
to the nearby "Ocean Rain" cache. Afterwards we had to decide
whether to turn back to the trailhead or continue on in further
exploration. We continued on, eventually coming to this very fine
spot which I'm told is called "Goodale Valley."
Our next question was whether to return to the trailhead, or
take a more direct route down the hill to a local friend's house,
who could give us a ride back to our parking spot. Uncertain about
a trail connection down we nevertheless embarked on what I fondly
termed "Danny's Golden Adventure."
The "Golden" part referred to a gold bison tube
he hid along the Great Western Trail. The "Adventure" part referred
to what followed.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, it does appear
there's a local trail connection down the hill. In fact, it might
be a very convenient shortcut for you to this cache. I had to look
at satellite images afterwards, but they show that a trail up from
the end of Nordic Valley Way does eventually connect to the ridge
along the GWT. I've included those waypoints for others who wish to
give them a go.
The cache is a cammoed decon at the base of a twisted oak.
