Mandurah's Significant Trees
Quite by accident we found a register maintained by
Mandurah City Council of significant trees in the area. Some
of these trees are icons around Mandurah, others are unique
examples of their species, and others are just magnificent trees,
but all are worth taking a look at.

Italian Stone Pine
This tree was planted in 1943 by pioneering
local professional fisherwoman Ethel Toussaint from seed collected
from the Pine Trees which once grew on Island Point. The
seedling was planted at the "48 mile peg", 48 miles from Bunbury,
at a time when fishing families lived along the estuary foreshore
and Estuary Road was part of the track to Bunbury. Ethel
Toussaint lived in the house situated opposite this tree from the
time of its construction in 1945 until her death in 1996.
This species has been widely planted in suitable climates for its
edible pine nuts.
