My advice is to grab the cache and find a safe place to sign the return it when all is clear due to the Cache being muggled on several occasions.
The Talacre sand dunes form the backdrop to the beach at Point of Ayr, in Flintshire, North Wales. Located next to the Point of Ayr Nature Reserve the dunes are themselves an Area of Special Scientific Interest.
During the daylight hours the wide open beaches and the sand dunes are a favourite hot spot for sun-loving holiday makers, but by night they are home to one of Wales' rarest creatures. Natterjack toads are limited to this one small site near the Dee Estuary.
Natterjacks became extinct in Wales during the 1960’s possibly due to the over- development of caravan parks and, although Talacre is a popular spot with holidaymakers, the species was successfully reintroduced to the dunes early in the 21st Century.
Talacre dunes are also popular with bird watchers, and the beach offer possibilities for sighting migrating Terns, Gannets, Skuas, Leach's Petrel, Kittiwakes and other visitors to the Dee estuary and the Irish Sea.
Among the sand dunes themselves, and the marsh behind the Point of Ayr lighthouse, can be observed Whinchat, Wheatear, Stonechat, Skylark and various Warblers. Talacre Warren (between the end of Station Road and the lighthouse) is a particularly good place to see migrant birds.
