Join cachers from Massachusetts and New Hampshire for a meet and
greet from 10-10:30 am in Clifford Park in Biddeford. The event
will be held rain or shine. After the event, we will do some
caching in the area. August 20th is the first International
Geocaching Day! Anyone who logs an "attended" for an event will
receive the International Geocaching Day souvenir.
Clifford Park, a 52-acre woodland preserve owned by the city of
Biddeford, is a great place for hiking, mountain biking, and cross
country skiing. The park is located a few minutes from downtown
Biddeford and contains quite a few trails and many geocaches. A
large map sign located beside the Pool Road parking lot shows the
most significant trails and their color-coded trail markers.
Although the park can be crossed in a straight line in a half mile,
the large number of informal trails makes it easy to get turned
around. A GPS or compass is highly recommended. On the higher land
near the center of the park are piles of granite rocks. The falling
waters of West Brook border two sides of the park. A trail is being
proposed to connect West Brook Pond, where skating is popular, to
allow X-country skiers to reach the park. The marking system uses
colored rings painted completely around tree trunks.
A trail map of the park can be found
here.
