Geocache Description:

You are looking for a 35mm Film Canister (changed size due to being muggled)

St Mary Magdalene & St James

Look at the West Tower is there any other church as green?
St.James is the only Greensand church in Bedfordshire that is actually green.A Mineral called Glauconite causes the green. The Church has fantastic views being sited on a hill and is visible from the M1.Looking out across the fields it meets the spire of Ridgmont.
The earliest part of the church is the 13th century south arcade,it also has a later north arcade and a 15th century tower. The rest of the building dates from 1911 when it was heavily restored by Cecil Hare with money from the Duke of Bedford. The church is built of local sandstone.
The church has a good peal of 6 bells which are still rung weekly (but not always all 6).I learnt to ring these bells when young with the aid of a box to be tall enough.
The bell tower used to be reached via a long ladder.Later my Dad and neighbour Mr Templeman undertook the task of creating a lower door way to the spiral staircase. As you can imagine the width of the walls and the solid structure it was a massive task but very much welcomed by the current bellringers.
The cache is located near to the church but do walk around and see the green stone.
