Geocache Description:

The playing field at Churt is in memoriam of the First World War and before it was built, the cricketers played near Frensham Pond. It seemed that they were more interested in the local hotel than playing the game though, so to combat this, a barrel of beer was taken to the ground and the captain could then be sure of having a full side!

Churt Cricket Club was founded in 1875 and has played cricket on the Recreation Ground in the centre of the village for over 80 years, having relocated from Frensham in the 1920's. The club runs 4 senior sides, as well as having a thriving junior section.

Churt Cricket Club was a founder member of the I'Anson and Miller Cup competitions in which the club enjoyed much success over the years. In 1991 the club left these competitions to join the Surrey County League.

The new Pavilion on Churt recreation ground was completed at the end of 2005. It replaced an old wooden pavilion that had seen many years of constant village use.

There is also a thriving tennis club here at Churt Recreation Ground.....
