Welcome to the Division A (North) offices for the New Jersey Forest Fire Service and North Region Forest Management. This office covers Sussex, Morris, Warren, Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union, Middlesex, Hunterdon, Somerset and Mercer Counties. This state agency has been responsible since 1906 for wildland fire suppression, wildfire/incident command training, Smokey Bear programs, Firewise programs for communities, burn permit issuance and enforcement, western fire response for the federal government and disaster response for local municipalities and counties.
This agency has seven fire towers in this division that are operated when weather conditions dictate the woods are dry enough to burn. They in return dispatch one of the fire apparatus operated here in the division to the fires location when spotted. If the fire is large, a contract drop plane or helicopter is dispatched from the divisions air attack base located at Aeroflex Airport.
When you look around the grounds you will see seven miniature towers that represent those in the division as well as a miniature helicopter (UH-1H Huey) and miniature Grumman Agcat drop plane operated by this agency.
Now about the cache. The cache is a military first aid kit that has been slightly modified for this hide. It is located just off the grounds in the woods north of the facility. Its located up a steep incline depending on how you chose to get there. There is a log and some fire fighter swag in the cache. Please bring a pen. Parking is available at the adjoining parking lot or over at the Sussex Branch Trail access parking lot.Please don't wander into the gated area if the gate is open, its a secured area. But feel free to stop in the main office for fire prevention information or to say hi, several people here are geocachers. This cache is dedicated to wildland fire fighters and most of all their families who put up with the long hours and lengthy deployments on western fire assignments. Enjoy the cache and be safe!
