A two portage canoe run into Knife Lake, a beautiful area of Haliburton Highlands.
I decided to paddle out on one of my favourite lakes and just go with the flow and see where it takes me. After 2 two portages and a wonderful encounter with a moose and her 2 calves I wound up on Knife Lake where a freak thunderstorm drove me to shore and set up a shelter with my canoe.
So here I was, just me and about two million mosquitoes and deer flies sitting under an upside down canoe waiting out the rain for 2hrs. I had planned to make Jean Lake before days end it but it wasn't meant to be.
Despite the rain and insects it was a good day on the water. So to mark the end of the day I left a cache at the head of the Jean Lake portage near the site of my temporary rain shelter.
Maybe next time I'll make Jean Lake or maybe just see where fate takes me.
May your paddles bring you just as many pleasures.
I forgot to leave a pencil in the cache so BYOP
