La Sénia - El camp d'aviació
Durant la Guerra Civil (1936-1939) el Govern de la II República, per defensar-se del cop militar, va planejar la construcció d’un seguit d’aeròdroms. A Catalunya un dels més importants fou el camp d’aviació de La Sénia, construït l’any 1937 i que comptava amb tres pistes. Durant les obres es van arrencar més de 9.000 oliveres. És un espai històric i patrimonial parcialment conservat i vinculat a la memòria recent de la població. El camp té una extensió de 90 ha de terreny i un perímetre irregular que recorda una estrella de cinc puntes. En la construcció de l’aeròdrom precisament a La Sénia, hi va tenir molt a veure la seva situació estratègica: equidistant entre Barcelona i València i també a prop de les illes de Mallorca i Eivissa.

La Sénia - The airfield
During the Civil War (1936-1939) the government of the Second Republic built a series of airfields in order to defend the military coup. In Catalonia, one of the most important was the airfield of La Sénia, built in 1937. It had three runs. During the construction of the airfield, more than 9,000 trees were cut. It is a historical and cultural heritage preserved and partially linked to the recent memory of the population. The field covers an area of 90 hectares of land and an irregular perimeter resembling a five-pointed star. The construction of an airfield in La Sénia was due to its strategic location: halfway between Barcelona and Valencia and near the islands of Mallorca and Ibiza.
