Geocache Description:

This cache will take you within view of the back side of the Morton Salt operations that have been in Silver Springs for many years. Container is a micro. This could be a quick park and grab, or it might take a bit longer.

The production of salt has been an important part of life in the Silver Springs area since 1884. This particular operation is the oldest producing evaporating salt plant in the US. The original name of the company was the Silver Springs Salt Company until 1887, when Joseph Duncan purchased the salt operation and renamed it the Duncan Salt Company. The name was changed again in 1894 to the Worcester Salt Company, when Mr. Duncan partnered with a New York City sales agency. Finally the Worcester Salt Company was brought by the Morton Salt Company in 1943, making it part of a national brand. My mother’s parents were both employed at this salt operations plant. My grandfather, Frank Chastek worked there for over 40 years and my grandmother, Marian Chastek for over 30 years before their retirements.
Please be sure to park off the road.
~~~Congratulations to Snowman257 for the quick FTF!!!~~~
