Enjoying the great outdoors is something everyone can participate
in, and more and more people are taking advantage of the adventures
that Mother Nature provides. It is for this reason that we all need
to be conscious of our impact on the areas that we visit, and what
we take from them. It never ceases to amaze me the crap that
“man” leaves behind. You find yourself 2 miles back on
a beautiful trail enjoying all the beauty our world has to offer.
You stop to look at bird or a flower and notice an old discarded
beer can or candy wrapper lying next to you. The geocaching motto
is CITO – Cache In Trash Out. I have cached with many of you
and we all have humped our fair share of junk out of the woods and
parks. This will be short series which showcases some of the
different items I have cleaned out of my back pack from CITO at the
end of a cache run. A sort of honorable mention of
“JUNK”. Some of these are neat, some are obscure, some
are big some are small and some are down right gross. My plan is to
place these with only one or two log sheets. When the logs are full
these gems will be put to rest in their proper place. If any of
these happen to get muggled, they cannot be replaced. Most of these
are one of a kind. The acronym if you are wondering stands for
“Things Found While Caching”. Kind of a shame I even
had this idea!
Now for a short history of item number 4. I noticed this item while
placing one of the last bayfront hides. It was raining and I was in
a hurry and I chose to leave the item behind. I paid many times
over for that decision as many cachers noticed it and said
something about it in their log. Every time I thought a landscaper
may have picked it up, someone else would comment about the item. I
finally couldnt take it anymore and went down an scooped it up.
Many of you have seen this item before, so here it is one more time
for your limited enjoyment!!
Don't forget to bring a camera!
