Geocache Description:

This is one of a 'Bring Your Own Battery' series. It requires the use of a 9 volt battery to open it .

Sick of looking for nanos in haystacks? Or tiny tupperware thrust deep under prickle bushes? Do you get the impression that some hiders are sadistic swine intent on inflicting the maximum frustration? Yes? Then here is the antidote: A cache that is soooo easy to find. Hey, if you don't believe me, here is a picture of it!

How about that! But there is a price to pay for such accessibility… and it's around $3 - $10.

To be muggle proof the cache must be locked. And if it's locked there must be a key. One that is readily available, but not something a muggle would associate with a locked box. Something like… a nine volt battery! Approach the cache with one of these, find the appropriate spot to apply same, and the box will reveal its treasures to you! You can pick up a standard carbon-zinc battery for under $3 on special; an alkaline will cost more but is marginally better. Don't bother with lithium; too expensive and often can't deliver the current required.

One tip for the others in this series: always read the instructions carefully!

cheers, roymerc

Congratulations to Tangowithcupcake for being FTF!

A WORD OF WARNING ABOUT 9 VOLT BATTERIES!: Don't allow the terminals to come into contact with metallic objects! This will short circuit the battery and discharge it. It will also create a fair amount of heat. So putting your battery in the glovebox or your pocket with things like keys or loose change is not a good idea.
Some manufacturers sell them with a little plastic 'keeper' to protect the terminals. Keep the keeper! Or put some tape over the terminals or pop the battery in a plastic bag. Then you will be safe and can continue logging BYOBs!
