Geocache Description:

A nifty nano near to a local landmark.

This is a cache-and-dash with parking either in Hall Lane or on the local shop's carpark on Hurst Road.

The container is accessible from the public footpath and there is no need to enter the fenced-off area.

This is a very busy area so a lot of stealth will be required for this one and be please keep an eye on geokids due to proximity of the main road!

Dr Isaiah James Baker practiced medicine in the Hurst Hill area for around thirty five years often giving unpaid treatment to the poor and expert attention to all his patients, sometimes leaving money with them for coal or food and often praying with them on their death beds.

The statue erected in his memory was paid for by public subscription and built on land donated by local man named John Whitehouse so that the good deeds would not be forgotten.

The inscription on the plinth reads :
Erected by Public Subscription

To the memory of I. J. Baker, L.R.C.S. L.M.

He endeared himself to all who knew him by the uprightness of his character, his sympathy of the suffering and especially his kindness to the poor.

To many in afflicition he was a spiritual adviser and cheared the dying with his prayers and words of comfort.

By his good deeds, "He being dead yet speaketh."
