Stormwater Outlet B45 Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Small plastic container on semi-steep terrain. Don't bother going all the way down. Bring your own pencil, be stealthy, and look out for wasps. The blue lock is not the geocache!
Please do not go down or attempt to go down to the river level, stand in front of the outfall, or enter the outfall pipe itself as this is hazardous and the geocache is not there. Also be wary when it is raining, as large amounts of water may flow out of the outfall with no warning. Small plastic container with a log and a few small trinkets. This park is a very busy area, so stealth is needed. It is in a small park, with a playground, a spray park, and the Eau Claire shopping centre near it. Dogs are allowed, as long as they are leashed. As the cache is too small for even a golf pencil, you will have to bring your own writing utensil. There is a pay parking lot about 2 or 3 blocks from the outlet. Happy caching! In June 2013, a devastating flood occurred in this area. It was the worst flood in Calgary's history, destroying countless homes, flooding Downtown and Stampede Park, and tearing apart pedestrian bridges. Four people died in the flood, which also severely damaged High River and other areas. Due to the support, donations, and volunteers, Calgary recovered extraordinarily well. The Stampede went ahead, despite the fact that the park was submerged two weeks earlier. The original container was lost in the flood. The outfall was submerged under approximately eight feet of water. Outfalls such as B45 are large, open-ended pipes connected to the storm drains seen on the curbs, that drain water into rivers, reservoirs, and artificial lakes after it rains. A network of underground pipes connects each and every storm drain to one of many stormwater outlets. These drains link directly to bodies of water and are not filtered, which is why it is important to not dump chemicals down the storm drains or allow runoff of carwash soap or pesticides to drain away. This outlet is the 45th along the Bow River, hence the name B45.
