Geocache Description:

This cache is NOT located at the posted coordinates. To get the actual coordinates you will need to solve the puzzle below. Once solved you will be looking for a small camouflaged lock-n-lock container.

Melissa and I often travel to or through Oklahoma and we always get quite a kick out of the bright red dirt everywhere. We've often commented that we aren't actually in Oklahoma, but rather we took a wrong turn and ended up on Mars somehow. I'm sure all the locals are completely used to the colour of the dirt and don't even notice it anymore, so we felt it was our duty -- as visitors to this area -- to draw attention to it. Luckily several of our relatives live in the area and have agreed to keep an eye on this cache for us, performing maintenance and/or replacing as need be.

Story:

The year is 2076 and you are the pilot of the cargo ship CR-926c on route from Earth to Mars carrying crucial supplies that will be the difference between life and death for a large number of colonists living in the mountainous Martian colony of Spender Hill. As you are entering the orbit of Mars and preparing to land an unexpected meteor shower pummels your landing craft disabling your navigational computer. Without a functional navigational computer you will be forced to take the controls yourself and land your damaged ship safely on the marked landing pad. You have flown dozens of trips taking cargo and colonists to and from Mars and are one of the solar system's most experienced pilots, but this is the first time you have had to handle the manual controls since the simulators at the Flight Academy. You firmly grasp the steering levers and realize that your only hope of survival and the lives of all of the colonists depend on your ability to land this craft safely.

Instructions:

The sharp uneven rocks covering this area would puncture your craft's hull and cause it to explode if you landed on them. You must only bring the lander down on the flat prepared landing pad, but you cannot hit the landing pad too fast or at too much of an angle either. In order to land without crashing your velocity cannot be faster than 6, for a perfect landing your velocity cannot be over 3. Your angle must be between 5 and 0. If you do not land quickly enough you will run out of fuel and your lander will fall towards the ground resulting in a crash.

Controls:

Mars Lander is based on JSLander developed by Jason Brown, using Javascript and Canvas.

Browsers:
Avant, Epiphany, Flock, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 9+, Maxthon, Midori, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator 9, Opera, Safari, SeaMonkey, and Sleipnir.

If you're having trouble getting the game to load in your browser here is a list (from wikipedia) of browsers that support the html5 canvas element. The most notable browser that doesn't support canvas is Internet Explorer 8. IE9 should load the game fine, but IE8 will just show a black screen. I recommend using Chrome, Firefox, Opera, or Safari.
