Dedicated to Alydar, who Placed (2nd) after Affirmed in each of the 1978 Triple Crown races. A quick P & G with wide, firm off-road parking. Easy terrain appears H/C accessible, but maybe not? Too small for trade items. The usual MG Gold Trophy awaits the FTF.
It's only appropriate that the geocaches for Alydar and Affirmed are adjacent (but a "legal" distance apart). They were adjacent stablemates at the end of their racing careers at Lexington's Calument Farm. Even though Affirmed was the FL horse, it was Alydar who trained for the '78 Derby in Fl at Hialeah.
Alydar did actually defeat Affirmed in races before and after the Triple Crown. He also proved more valuable at stud and was insured for more than $36 million. His story does not have a happy ending, however, and includes a bit of intrigue, as many maintain that he was murdered to collect that insurance money when Calumet Farms was facing bankruptcy. Cache is located in a designated horse crossing area, please excercise caution. Even though the legal speed limit is 45 mph, the average speeds at rush hour could likely finance half of the county budget if enforced.
If you're lucky you may see plenty of horses just south of here at the Equestrian Center on the left. If you find the FTF trophy first, thank you in advance for leaving it...as you've done before on a harder hide than this easy one.
