Short Line is one of the four railroads in the popular board game Monopoly. It is possibly named after the Shore Fast Line, an interurban streetcar line. The Monopoly's Short Line isn't named after a real-life railroad. The term short line applies to any independent railroad with track covering a short distance or a small region. While many such railroads have been bought by larger concerns or simply gone out of business, they are far from extinct. Happy caching.
