Should be a quick cache & dash to whet your appetite for what lies up this road. As a student in the last Rutgers Forestry Field Class to reside at and utilize this property in May 1996, I have very dear memories of the best three weeks of my college career here! Please remember to BYOWI. Happy Caching!
The Lusscroft Farm trail network is over 5 miles long, and winds through grassland, hardwood forest, and wetland habitats. There are trails for all hikers, from beginner to advanced. Lusscroft Farm has a significant agricultural history, unique geologic features, was the Beemerville 4-H Youth Camp from 1971-1996, and hosts year-round educational activities such as Maple "Sugar'n," nature walks, and equine trail rides.
Lusscroft Farm is iconic of our vanishing rural heritage, holding a unique place in the Garden State's agricultural history. It embraces some of our most inspiring scenic vistas, intriguing geology and interesting topography. It has a promising potential for passive recreational and educational activities, allowing metropolitan daytrippers to enjoy picturesque surroundings of high interpretive value within several hours of travel time. If its attributes were sympathetically enhanced and properly marketed, then Lusscroft could become a thriving destination in the growing market for agri-tourism, eco-tourism, and heritage tourism.
The Heritage and Agriculture Association (H & AA) is working to stabilize and then restore the neglected buildings of this agriculturally significant gem. The goal of the association, as stated in a Memorandum of Understanding with the NJDEP is to create and maintain an agricultural heritage center with emphasis and opportunities for education in the dairy industry, outdoor recreation, historical interpretation, equine trails, heirloom gardening, forestry, maple sugaring, and all phases of farming from organic gardening to marketing value added products.
