Geocache Description:

On this journey, you will be navigating your way to a hidden plot which you must explore in order to reveal the final cache location. This is not an easy trek and should only be reached by way of an overgrown footpath. Please take care when attempting this cache and be sure to treat the grounds with respect. Parking can be found at the listed coordinates.

This would be the trailhead.

To successfully log this cache, you will need to know how to project a waypoint.
Distances are in feet and directions are true bearings.
If you need to convert the distance to miles, you can divide the answers by 5280.

A notepad or anything else to write on is recommended for scribbling on. You should bring a pen too. You'll need one to sign the log anyways.
The calculations required are not all that hard, so you may be able to get by without taking notes. The majority of the work here is in getting there.

The Friends of Smithfield Cemeteries are looking for someone to adopt this location, which would involve maintainance of the grounds and pathway. If you are not interested or cannot dedicate the time to this location, that's ok. Please at least consider doing what you can on your visit to keep this place accessible and clean. Maintainence will not effect the rating of this cache. Feel free to clear any portions of the path that you are able (you can even bring a weedwhacker!) and please report any problems such as new damage to headstones or fallen trees on the grounds. If you are interested in adopting this location or if you have any major problems to report, you can contact The Friends of Smithfield Cemeteries at friendsofsmithfieldcemeteries@gmail.com or you can contact me through the link above. Thank you.

Some notes on the ratings and attributes:
The trip is less than a quarter mile each way, but it isn't a simple stroll. Poison ivy may be present so dress accordingly and take the proper precautions.
The path may contain light bushwhacking through woods and grassy areas. Also, there may be some wading involved. For this reason and possibile poison ivy exposure, I do not consider this to be appropriate for smaller children.
I have given a 2 difficulty rating for the work required to find the final location. The 3 terrain rating may be a little high for the actual hike, but is elevated due to the possibility of slippery rocks.

Now you'll need to project a waypoint in order to find this cache. So as practice for the field puzzle, project this waypoint from the listed coordinates for this cache (N 41° 52.305 W 071° 30.715):

FIRST PROJECTION
X28' @ 2X6°
At the parking area, there are wooden stumps that used to act as rail supports. Count the total number of stumps that no longer have a rail. This number is X.
Use this waypoint information as a guide in order to keep heading the correct direction.

The journey begins at the end of Sebille Rd. Continue along the right shoulder of Sebille Rd, following the edge of Sebille Pond. There is a narrow footpath that continues into the woods. This is where you will start.

A short way in, you will reach a rocky area that acts as an overflow for the pond. It is not the cleanest area and I can imagine if the water level is high enough, you may have to cross some water. Please be sure to take care here. There is also a nice of example of the land returning to nature here.

FINAL PROJECTION
              ' °
____ ____ ____ @ ____ ____ ____
  A B C D E F

The waypoint should bring you straight to the gate of the first cemetery. Only the first name and following initial is given, which should be sufficient to acquire the necessary information.

MOSES M
A
= 2nd digit in the year of his age

LEANDER M
F
= RI Infantry Regiment number

With this information, exit the gate and head east into the neighboring cemetery.

You may notice some of the stones are newer granite headstones, cut to match the shape and thickness of traditional slate stones. These were made in 1970, when all of the graves in this fenced area were relocated to this position during the construction of Rte 295. The first cemetery was not moved, which is evident by the poor condition of many of the stones there.

NANCY B
B
= 3rd digit in the year of her death

ADISON F
C
= 3rd digit in the year of his death

FRANCES M
D
= 3rd digit in the year of her death

MOWRY B
E
= 2nd digit in the days his age

Use these numbers to project a waypoint to the final cache container. Use the coordinates obtained from the first projection (the gate of the first cemetery) as a starting point. Please re-hide the container well to keep it from being seen.

Thanks to Sidekeck for showing me this neat place.
