After much anticipation, Norfolk's new light rail will be opening to the public on August 19th. Gather with us for a flash mob to take a picture with the light rail in the background. We will meet at exactly 1PM and disperse by 1:15PM. Do not go to the GZ before 1PM, just blend in with the normal tourists and residents in the area. A couple small prizes will also be raffled off.
The light rail will be free to the public August 19-21 only. After the event, we plan on taking a free ride and all are welcome to join. Round trip takes about 50 minutes but the train does return to the station we are starting from after about 20 minutes.
You may also park at one of the free "Park and Ride" stations and ride the Tide to the event. The stations with free parking are Harbor Park, Ballentine/Broad Creek, Military Highway, and Newtown Road.
Free street parking is available on Sundays in downtown Norfolk in the neighborhood between Duke Street and the Pagoda, 4 blocks from the event - see waypoint. There is also paid parking available in the garages at MacArthur Center.
